Welcome

Little Wings Nest was created to support children as they make sense of big feelings and difficult experiences.

Through gentle storytelling, nature-based metaphors, and simple grounding tools, Little Wings Nest offers resources that help children feel seen, safe, and understood.

At the heart of Little Wings Nest is Mmara, a young magpie whose stories explore what it can feel like to grow up around storms. Through Mmara’s journey, children can recognise their feelings, find moments of calm, and learn that safe branches and safe people exist.

The Mmara books were created with the understanding that children are often deeply affected by the environments around them, particularly when there has been conflict, fear, or domestic and family violence. Rather than explaining these experiences directly, the stories use metaphor, rhythm, and connection to nature to gently open conversations.

Alongside the stories, Little Wings Nest is developing the Mmara Bridge Framework, a trauma-informed approach designed to support caregivers, educators, and practitioners in using the books to help children regulate, reflect, and reconnect with safety.

At its heart, Little Wings Nest holds a simple belief:

Children deserve calm skies, safe branches, and adults who help them find their wings again.
