Meet the Founder
The Mmara series was featured on the front page of the Townsville Bulletin NQ Weekend magazine on Saturday 24th May 2026
Amelia Golsby-Smith is the founder and creator of the Mmara children’s book series and the founder of Little Wings Nest.
Drawing on her lived expertise, her work as an Advanced Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner, and her background as an early childhood educator and mother, Amelia is passionate about helping children feel seen, safe, and understood when life feels uncertain.
Through the story of Mmara, the little magpie, Amelia uses gentle metaphor and storytelling to explore the big feelings children may carry during times of change, conflict, or upheaval. Her work aims to create compassionate ways for adults to support children’s emotional safety, regulation, and sense of belonging.
Alongside the books, Amelia has developed the Mmara Bridge Framework, designed to support practitioners, caregivers, educators, and communities to engage with children through storytelling, regulation tools, and meaningful conversations.
Amelia lives in North Queensland, where the landscapes, wildlife, and wide skies continue to inspire the world of Mmara.
